Faculty of Health Sciences

The University of Maribor (UoM) is a comprehensive educational and research organisation striving for academic excellence and the expansion of knowledge through basic and applied research. With over 1100 researchers and teaching staff, UoM collaborates with economic partners, civil society, public administration and other institutions and thus supports research and art with focus on well-being and development of the society. In its 2013-2018 Research and Development Strategy based on smart specialisation, UoM focuses on the priority area of Horizon 2020 “Societal challenges – Health, demographic changes and well-being”.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) was established by the Slovenian Parliament in 1993 as a university college. Within a few years it became the first Faculty of Health Sciences in Slovenia, offering postgraduate study programmes in nursing and health sciences. We are offering five (one undergraduate, three master postgraduate and one PhD) study programmes: undergraduate programme in Nursing Care, postgraduate programmes in Nursing Care, Management in Health and Social Organisations and Bioinformatics and PhD programme in Nursing Care. From year 2016 the Faculty of Health Sciences is the first in Slovenia offering accredited PhD study program in Nursing.

The Faculty is actively involved in the international educational and research arena, and participates, as a coordinator or partner, in many European projects. Through the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes, the Faculty introduces the latest technology, innovation, creativity and interactivity for the achievement of student competences and the main goal, which is – a holistic patient care. Our key staff

  • Barbara Donik

    Senior Lecturer in Nursing, MsC

    Involved in lecturing surgical nursing, intensive care nursing and communication in health care at undergraduate level and peripatetic nursing in postgraduate level.
    Experience in practice setting (intensive care unit) and in simulation settings. Involved in incorporating technology enhanced learning and in international and national projects.
    PhD candidate; research topic: cultural sensitivity and awareness of nurses in connection with safety culture

  • Anton Koželj

    Lecturer in Nursing, MsC

    Lecturer at University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences with over 10 years’ experience in conducting basic and advanced life support training in simulation environment.
    Experiences: simulation pedagogy, preparing simulation scenarios for nursing students; joint international bilateral project.
    PhD candidate; research topic: Self-Perception of Nurses during cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

  • Maja Štiglic

    International coordinator for staff and student exchange.

    10 years experience in working on national and international projects as an administrative support as well as researcher in pedagogical and sociological field.
    Experience in the field of didactical methods, which are used for working with people with special needs.
